The barbecue is on at the Boat Party this Wednesday, May 30th, on the ship Eastern Comfort with mixing cultures and languages and live music on the Spree. The weekly language/international party brings together people of all ages from everywhere and is known for its friendly ambience where it's easy to meet and talk with people in a variety of languages--I help with arranging language partners. Come early for that. The party starts at 7pm around my 5-star hummus. The entry is two euros (one euro to pay the band). ERASMUS students (with valid ID) get in free.
The BBQ (weather allowing) is from 8 to 10pm and includes steaks, chicken, sausages and vegetarian sausages with buns and salad.
This week Xavier Gomez & Friends will be performing Bossa-Nova-Pop in Xavi's heartfelt Andalusian style--his last concert before he leaves Berlin for the summer. The concert will begin around 10pm.
Last week the boat was full in the heat with cool air coming off the water. It was a good night to speak English, German, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Russian, Turkish, Romanian, Dutch, Chinese, Polish, Hindi, Korean, Hungarian, Hebrew, Croatian, Malay and Macedonian out on the water,
Ode to the Spree
At sunset some women bragged
That mosquitos were biting them.
The sun disappeared over there
Behind that brick building against the river.
The sky was small and pink and in that
Light lip gloss tends to shimmer,
Before it got dark.
You smelt the water two fathoms
Deep, green, nearly resinous,
Moving past like cattle.
And we on the lighted surface and leaning against the rail.

The ship is a 5-10 minute walk from Warschauerstr. U-Bahn/S-Bahn/Tram down Warschauerstr. toward the Oberbaumbrücke. Just before the bridge turn right onto Mühlenstr., and the Eastern Comfort entrance is about 100 meters down the street (Mühlenstr. 73, Berlin, 10243) near the beginning of the Eastside Gallery. On the ship, the lounge is on the 2nd floor. See you there.
