Re^4: how to break the "no experience, no job" cycle from Thomas Hawighorst (04 Jul 2008, 06:18 am) in group "Human Resources"

Hi Mariateresa, Bizarre ... I always thought that internships are made for people to gain experience, so why should experience be a pre-requisite? I Know that Shell Canada has significant operations and is always looking for good people in HR. As an intern experience is not a pre-requisite. Have a look ar www.shell.com/careers. Good company to get into for experience in HR. But if you don't fancy the long cold winters out in Alberta you may want to change your job search strategy. Unsolicited ...

Hi Nico, thanks so much for your advices, I'll follow them for sure and try not to get discouraged. Just one think: do you think Canada is the wrong choice? I guess internships are managed between universities and companie mor than in other country as there are so few around. Thanks again Sincerely Mariateresa Esposito

... Hi Mariateresa, this is indeed a difficult situation. I know what I´m talking about, because a couple of years ago I used to manage the internship program of a "global player" and candidates who were rejected often asked this question. Nevertheless my 2 cents of advice: Look for rather small and unknown companies. They do not get as many applications as the big players. That way, your chances of getting an internship are much higher. And with that experience on your side, then apply for ...

how to break the "no experience, no job" cycle from Mariateresa Esposito (03 Jul 2008, 12:55 pm) in group "Human Resources"

Hi all members, I've recently gotten my master's degree in HRM and, few weeks later, a six month work permit for Canada. The point is that even if I'm looking for internship in the Toronto area I am required to have former experience in the HR field or be a Canadian's University graduate. How to break this cycle? I would like to take advantage of people who know this field better or tips/contacts from whoever would be pleasant to. Thanks so much Mariateresa Esposito
