Hi to All from Ramon Lopez Ruiz (04 Jul 2008, 7:46 pm) in group "Lean Thinking"

Few years ago, while I was working for a worldwide manufacturing company, I was asked to have continuous improvement area responsibilities in one of factories located in Mexico, I started tasting the basics of lean concepts applied at the shop floor. Later, lean manufacturing strategy and tools were adopted as next step to continue growing on it, of course I was very excited each time; a lean enterprise + lean thinking + continuous improvement whole strategy was the next step adopted, results ...

Intro from Lee Jones (04 Jul 2008, 08:30 am) in group "Lean Thinking"

Hi all, I'm a system dynamicist by "trade" and have been working in a host of industries over the past 20 years applying SD concepts but also discrete-event simulations for problem solving. Having a very good relationship with a pharma client led to an interest in lean thinking as the client group is currently implementing lean throughout it's organisation. Having studied introductory texts and workbooks (such as "learning to see" etc) I see that many of the concepts in lean are similar to ...

Re^5: Toyota and Ford Sales Tumble in US from Ralf Lippold (03 Jul 2008, 9:17 pm) in group "Lean Thinking"

Quality and design - these two parts of the equation have to be fulfilled! ....build only what the customer truly seeks to get (that is actually LEAN THINKING). Cheers, Ralf

Hi all interesting point of Dirk! I want to add following thought: Design aims to address our emotions. Fascination. Love. [Aus Liebe zum Automobil] [Loves the road...] Fun. [ Freude am Fahren] Yes, I guess that the majority in this forum, although being fascinated by the Toyota Way, would prefer one of the German cars (in the case that money is not important). Why? Cheers Markus

Re^3: Toyota and Ford Sales Tumble in US from Dirk Fischer (03 Jul 2008, 8:37 pm) in group "Lean Thinking"

Hi all, Egil is absolutely right. No doubt at all, but I want to bring another aspect on the table with regards to sales downturns and so on and this aspect is not necessarely (at a first look) a lean aspect......maybe it is...I don´t know. The aspect I am thinking of is product design. As most of you know, I greatly believe in the Toyota system (Toaota Way), but I do not really like the design of Toyota cars. Yes of course many people do, otherwyse they wouldn´t sell millions of cars, but how ...

Dear All, If you read this article, you will get even more confused: http://www.finanzen.net/nachricht/VDA_Deutscher_Automarkt_legt_im_Juni_um_ein_Prozent_zu__Ausblick_bekraeftigt_748750 Reality is out there: We are wasting our petrol and petrol is getting scarce. Why should we buy a new car, which within few years will be useless? Lean targets on reductions of waste. It suggest we should develop transportation systems with low fuel (or money for fuel) consumption. Carbon, petrol, gas, etc. are ...

Hi all, Markus has -again- triggered an interesting after thought in my head: Isn't it even more about creativity that drives the lean attitude? Richard Florida has recently writtten on that on his blog: http://creativeclass.typepad.com/thecreativityexchange/2008/07/two-auto-indust.html What do you think? To far away from Lean? Out of imagination? Cheers, Ralf

Hi all found this interesting article: http://www.time.com/time/business/article/0,8599,1819441,00.html "...Toyota said Tuesday its car sales dropped 9.4 percent for the month, while its truck sales slipped 38.9 percent. For the first half of the year, Toyota sales were down 6.8 percent. ..." If this trend continues, it will be definitely interesting how Toyota reacts in comparison with all competitors. Will they lay off staff, as the constraint goes to the market? How fast will they adapt ...

Introduction from Martin Spreitzer (02 Jul 2008, 12:40 am) in group "Lean Thinking"

Hey there! My name is Martin Spreitzer and I am student of Industrial Engineering at the University of Applied Sciences Esslingen, former known as FHTE. Not very much during my classes at university but therefore even more during an internship at the US got me into LEAN - Lean Production in particular. At the Detroit Diesel Corporation (Daimler subsidiary) I gained fundamental knowledge in this seminal special subject due to theoretical training and "Learning by Doing". Through the active ...

Re: The Good the Bad and the Ugly of Corporate Responsibility from Gerold Keefer (01 Jul 2008, 9:54 pm) in group "Lean Thinking"

ralf, you are posing two questions, i think: 1. is lean thinking transferable from a single organisational context to a wider context like society or the global economy? 2. why is it so hard to change human behaviour? question 2. has one simple answer: behaviour is identity in action. trying to change behaviour means trying to change identity. identity, however, is the foundation for specific existence. so, expect to have troubles changing the behaviour of other people. question 1.: yes, i ...
