Here you’ll find answers to your questions, and information about XING features. You can also contact the XING Support team if you need any other assistance.
You have the option of submitting a group suggestion by going to "Groups" followed by "Suggest new groups" in the gray column on the right-hand side. Feel free to visit the help section by going to https://www.xing.com/app/user?op=info.group_request where you'll find answers to questions such as "How can I create a group?" or "My group suggestion was denied, what now?"
"Your groups" shows an overview of groups of which you are a member, which you moderate, or which you have bookmarked. You don't have to search through the list of all groups to find your group; you can go to your own individual group overview with a single click.
If you've found a group you'd like to join, just click on the "Join now!" button on the "About this group" page. Some groups request that you enter a reason for joining, after which you can be approved by the group moderators.
If you're still looking for the right group, you can find an overview of all group categories on the Group page, under the "All Groups" tab. Each category contains a large number of groups on various topics. You can also use the group search function to find groups that match your interests.
You can invite your contacts, other XING members and even people who are not yet registered on XING to join groups. There are three ways to do this:
Go to the profile of the person you would like to invite and click on the link "Invite to this group".
Go to the group you would like to invite the person to join and click on the link "Invite to this group".
Go to the "Groups" section and click on the "Group Invitations" tab.
You have the option of personalizing the message in the invitation form. A link to the group is automatically added to the message.
When you invite a person from their profile page, they will receive the standard invitation in the system language they have activated.
Note: No invitations will be sent to people who are already members of the group. In addition, you cannot invite a person to join the same group more than once in a six-month period.
XING only intervenes to delete posts in exceptional cases. If this does occur, the author of the post in question is immediately informed by email.
First of all you should check whether your post or even the whole thread has been moved by the moderator, perhaps because they were of the opinion that it fitted better thematically into another forum. Carry out a group search here by clicking on “Groups”. Then enter the subject of the “lost” post, select “My posts” and click “Search”. If the post you are looking for is not listed, please contact the moderator of the group. Moderators are able to edit posts in their group and to delete them if they break the law or breach “netiquette” guidelines.
Groups on XING are managed by moderators, who decided who they wish to accept as members into their group. XING has no influence over this process. Please contact the group moderator if you would like the decision to be reviewed. The most important criteria for joining a group are outlined on the “About this group” page. Ask the moderator for the specific reasons as to why you were declined (if these have not already been listed) or enquire as to what you could do to be admitted to the group after all.
You have two possibilities for searching for members of your group: You can search your group using the search box on your group’s homepage. Or you can click on "Administration and settings > Member administration" which contains lists of confirmed members and people whose request to join you rejected. You can also search the lists for specific people.
In general, we’re able to make a decision about your group application within 14 days. As soon as your group application has been processed, you’ll receive notification on whether your proposal has been approved or denied.
In order to post in a group, you should start by clicking on the "Forums" tab and selecting the forum in which you wish the post to appear. Then scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on the button "Write new post in this forum". Enter a subject for the post and add your text in the appropriate field, then click on "Post".
In order to respond to a post, select the post in question and then click on "Comment".
Add your text in the appropriate field and then click on "Save".
Please note that in order to post in a group forum, you have to be a member of the respective group (regardless of the group settings).
Closed groups are only open to members who have been approved by the moderator or group. The purpose of closed groups is to create a forum in which sensitive topics can be discussed within a certain group of people, or to ensure that only truly interested and active members join a group.
If you’re already a member of a group or groups, you will find them listed under "Groups -> Your groups". You can locate all other groups using the groups search or in the individual categories under "Groups -> Group search".
If you would like to create an exciting group on XING and moderate the new group, just fill out our group application form. Your group application will be reviewed according to the following criteria:
Applications for groups must include sufficient information on the group's intended topic.
The focus of the proposed group must not be too general.
In order to maintain our neutrality, XING does not permit groups focusing on political or religious topics, or world views.
As soon as we have reached a decision as to your group application request, we’ll inform you via email.
If you no longer wish to receive event invitations from a group, click on "Groups" or "My groups" (http://www.xing.com/app/network), go to the group in question and then uncheck the box "Subscribe to event invitations" (on the right-hand side of the group start page, under "My group options").
If you don't want to receive a newsletter from a group, select the group in question and uncheck "Subscribe to newsletter" underneath "My group options" (on the right-hand side of the group start page).
If you no longer wish to be a member of a certain group, click on "Groups" or "My groups" (http://www.xing.com/app/network), select the group concerned and click on the “Cancel your membership” button (on the right-hand side of the group start page).
Moderators manage their groups in terms of both content and administration. When a person takes on a moderator role on XING, they assume responsibility for certain duties. For example, as the contact person for group members, they are responsible for sending newsletters, and determining the structure and description of forums. Furthermore, moderators are responsible for confirming new members, and for solving problems within groups.
If your group suggestion was denied because of a lack of information or description, you can try again with a more detailed proposal.
If your group was denied with the explanation that it is not appropriate to the platform and you feel this isn’t the case, you can put forward your argument and ask for a review.
To show a group membership in your profile, make sure the following steps have been completed:
1. You should activate Group visibility under "Privacy settings → Visibility of groups". If this box is not checked, the group will not be shown on your profile page.
2. The group must also be set as "visible to everybody". This setting can only be changed by a moderator.
There are a variety of search options available to you in the gray highlighted areas on the group start page and forums:
Select whether you want to search for your own posts, for posts in general, or posts by a specific author.
Search results are sorted by relevance. When searching posts, you can also choose to have results sorted chronologically, new to old. The first post in a thread will be highlighted; responses to the post appear in normal font.
1) A post that appears in the RSS feed of a particular group has to be searchable and readable for everyone. The moderator controls this setting for the entire group.
2) In addition, the author of a post has to approve its release in an RSS feed in their privacy settings. Please click on http://www.xing.com/app/user?op=privacy_settings and check the "Make my posts in public groups available to search engines" box.
Please also note that RSS feeds only display posts in a certain language – depending upon the forum in which they appear. For example, posts in an English-speaking forum are automatically treated as English texts. Here is an example of an English-speaking RSS feed:
http://www.xing.com/generated/rss/en-rssfeed2.0.xml
RSS feeds are only updated at certain time intervals, e.g. every five minutes.
XING Ambassadors are particularly active and dedicated XING members. For more information about Ambassadors, please visit our group help section [Deeplink to Amb article].
Please send us a link to one of your posts. We'll then delete all of your posts for you. Please refer to the groups help section for more information (German only): Where do I find the URL for single posts?
