Here you’ll find answers to your questions, and information about XING features. You can also contact the XING Support team if you need any other assistance.
In the "Awards" field on your profile, you can enter awards you have received in your career to give other XING members an indication of your professional success.
Please enter each award separately, and include as much information as possible. If you wish to enter another award, just click on the plus sign. By entering each award separately, you make it easier for other XING members to find your profile. When you've finished entering awards, be sure to press the "Save" button. You can change or delete awards at any time.
Awards might include: Dean's List 1999, West Coast Creative Award 2003, Webby Award 2006
A XING Reference is an online recommendation by one of your XING contacts describing you professionally. A XING Reference can provide information, for example, for a potential employer or client. You can request that your XING contacts write references for you for any job you've entered into your XING profile.
1. You can request one of your contacts to act as a reference for you. Just go to the "Request reference" tab, and fill in the form.
2. One of your contacts might write a reference for you without you requesting it. You'll find these references under "Received references". You can choose to approve or reject received references.
One: Your contact sends you a reference request, and you accept it. Two: You send your XING contact an unrequested reference for confirmation. To do this, go to XING References, pull up your list of references, and select a contact. Then you can act as a reference, and add a letter of reference if you wish. Once the person approves the reference, it will become visible.
No. If you requested a contact of yours to provide you with a reference, it will go live immediately. You can still hide or delete it at any time under "My references". If you receive an unsolicited reference, it is by default invisible, and is only visible to you under "To confirm". You can decide whether to accept or decline the reference.
Your career history is transferred once from your XING profile for XING References. At present, changes made to your XING profile later are not automatically transferred to "References". We're working on a solution right now.
The "My references" section includes the various entries in your XING profile under career experience and education. For each entry, you can request a reference by clicking on the button. Furthermore, you can also see all references you have received up until now, both those with letters of reference, and those without such letters. From this page, you can also choose to hide or delete references. Finally, this page serves as a starting point for providing references to those contacts who have acted as references to you.
If you receive a reference after requesting one from a contact, it will go live immediately. If someone acts as a reference for you without you having requested them to do so, this reference will remain invisible in the "To confirm" area until you confirm it.

On the top of the page you can select which members will be displayed: Your XING contacts, contacts who have received messages, or contacts you're a reference for. Within each of these contact lists, you can filter, search, request a reference, or provide a reference.
Yes. Please go to the XING References page (accessible from your profile or the Application page) and click on "My Contacts' References". You can edit references individually.
The "To confirm" area contains both references your contacts have provided you without being requested ("Received references") and requests by members for you to provide a reference ("New reference requests").
XING members can provide unsolicited references to their contacts. These are invisible, and will appear under "Received references", in the "To confirm" area. You can accept or decline a reference request.
When you're writing a reference for someone, you can indicate the job you held at the time. This makes the professional connection between you and the person receiving the reference clearer. This can be particularly important if you or the other person has changed companies since the time you worked together.
No. When you request a XING contact to write a letter of reference, it is by default public and visible. Under "My references", you can hide or delete individual references at any time, however. If you receive an unrequested reference, it won't be posted online immediately. Rather, it appears as unconfirmed until you accept or decline it.
