  • Art Project 1001001 - The Art of Human Freedom - Call for artists 06 Oct 2009, 2:00 pm

    100 artists in 100 different countries develop one unique, innovative and creative project: 1 total work of art, consisting of 100 individual images

    Project 1001001 is to create a new beneficial community through art education and social activism. The theme of the exhibitions is a visualization of the term "FIGHT GLOBAL HUMAN TRAFFICKING".

    In each country an unlimited number of artists are allowed to participate with up to five different artworks, scaled 60 cm x 60cm (23” x 23”). The Art Project 1001001 Curatorial Committee, existing of representatives of the international art scene, selects a number of twenty finalists out of all participating artworks, which will be presented at an exhibition in each country. One of these works is dedicated to be the winning artwork and is sent to the next country afterwards as an ambassador of its country worldwide. So it happens that after a journey to 100 countries we will have a creation of 100 artworks forming one big converging global artwork.

    Our commitment therefore we are committed to:

    * Greater awareness of human trafficking through public events such as exhibitions and conferences, the work of all participating artists and the network of the Europe Institute for Social Work, Berlin
    * Facilitation of cross-border communication on human trafficking by art and cultural exchange
    * Promotion of local dialogue and debate on human trafficking and forced labour in each participating country, using art as a starter
    * Outreach to broad public interest by web activities in social communities (e.g. Facebook, expand networking and exhibitions, additional PR and media activities)
    * Support activities of local, national and global artists
    * Provision of a platform allowing artists involved, and others engaged in initiatives combating human trafficking, to present their work to a broad audience in their countries and around the world.
    * Development and maintenance of cooperation between artists and social care professionals to support existing networks on trafficking in persons;

    Will be provided through the non-profit Europe Institute for Social Work.

    The project will start in November 2009 in Stockholm, Sweden.

    As the current President of the Council of the European Union, Sweden has made the issue of human trafficking one of the priorities on the Council’s agenda, and therefore was chosen to be the first country to participate in the project.

    It is really interesting and good to read now that the aim of this "Art Project 1001001" is:

    Ziel des Projektes ist es, 100 Künstler aus 100 Ländern für eine Ausstellungsreihe zum Thema „weltweiter Menschenhandel“ zu gewinnen, die am Ende ein gemeinsames Gesamtkunstwerk kreiert haben.

    In der ersten Stufe werden in nationalen Ausschreibungen jeweils 20 Künstler aus einem Land gesucht, die von der Jury aus 100 Bewerbern ausgewählt werden. Die Arbeiten der ausgewählten Künstler werden in einer regionalen Ausstellung der Öffentlichkeit präsentiert. Aus diesen 20 Finalisten wird ein Künstler ausgewählt, der das Land als Botschafter bei den großen Schlussausstellungen vertreten wird. Zudem werden die Arbeiten der Länder - Botschafter auf jeder folgenden regionalen Ausstellung als Video - Präsentation gezeigt.

    Sind für alle 100 Länder Kunst - Botschafter gefunden, werden deren Arbeiten als Abschluss des Projektes in großen Ausstellungen präsentiert.

    Als Ausstellungsorte sind Berlin sowie die UNO- Sitze Wien, Genf und New York geplant.
