    This has generally been an intelligent discussion. That's good to see. Twelve months ago it was impossible to have such a debate on any forum, so much were people taken in by the false promise of "The Secret".

    The law of attraction has two forms, a hard form which is pure nonsense, and a soft form that is generally valid. The people who promote "The Secret" are selling the hard form to the gullible. That will lead to disaster, but if you don't already understand that, nothing I can say will convince you.

    I made a list of the generally valid statements made in "The Secret". They are:

    * "Begin where you are."
    * "The mind affects what it's possible to see."
    * "You become what you think about."
    * "You can only control yourself."
    * "You are the artist who creates your own life."
    * "Most of us live by default: we don't choose to choose."
    * "The moment you begin to think properly..." different things become possible.

    The real message of The Secret is no secret at all. It's here in these words: Your real work is to explain to yourself how you are and how the world is and to choose what to do. That is a nutshell is your own responsibility.

    That's the problem, people don't understand reality and don't think properly, so they choose badly, they choose inappropriate things, they choose to focus on things that if the "Law of Attraction" was really hard wired into the universe would be enormously destructive both for the individuals involved and for society as a whole.
