    Dear all,

    I would like to draw your attention to a new ACM initiative, called ACM Europe.
    Wendy Hall, the first non-US president of ACM writes about this initiative in
    the current issued of Communications of the ACM.

    Sure, I welcome and support the initiative. And I am responding, although I am above my self declared constraint in this group; that is, I do not want to write more that half of the articles or comments.

    Wendy mentions 15.000 members and 100 chapters for Europe. And I am pretty sure that we have even more informal or otherwise hidden groups. But that brings it to the point. Where are they? What are they doing?
    Is there a way to list the chapters on one page? A way to invite ACM members on Xing – historically very Europe centric – to joint this group? Is there a way to aggregate their feeds? Well, maybe too fancy. But how can we ask them if they are interested to connect, to find more members in their specific local area, or exchange ideas and know-how with other groups in Europe.

    And please, write 3 more articles to free me from my vow.

    here is a list of European Professional Chapters as found on the ACM Website:ur

    Together with ACM Headquarters were are currently interviewing European SIG and
    Chapter Leaders to find what could be done to stimulate growth and closer
    cooperation.
    After we see the results, we may be in a position to invite them to XING.

    I could identify about 60 European ACM groups with a web appearance. Though, a significant amount of them are GI/ACM Regionalgruppen. I wonder if Wendy counts the same way. And after all the distribution does not look quite even and correct.
