Crazy Sleigh Race in Poiana Brasov (Romania)
    "Cursa Trasnitilor"
    Third annual winter edition

The preparations for Rotary Club Brasov Citadel’s highly popular, fundraising Cursa Trasnitilor on January 30, 2010 on the famous Bradu slope have already started.

Participants will race down on one-man sleighs or form teams of at least two persons or as many as their sleigh can hold (or not) and can consist of family members, friends or representatives of a company. How the sleighs or snow „vehicles” look like is completely up to the participating teams.

Prizes will go to: the craziest sleigh, the team with the best showmanship, and the best company sleigh.

You can see pictures and some of the TV footage of the previous winter and summer editions of Cursa Trasnitilor on our website in the EVENT section http://www.redcarpet.ro and on facebook: Rotary Club Brasov Citadel.

    THE CAUSE
Every year, the awareness for Rotary Club Braşov Citadel’s „Cursa trasnitilor” event grows as it has introduced a new type of fundraising: FUNdraising, showing that helping others can actually be a fun thing to do. Also the participating jurors help promote these events. They have consisted of a famous Romanian rally driver, the vice mayor of Brasov, members of the press, etc.
This year’s winter edition of the „Cursa trasnitilor” is to raise funds for awarding classes in Brasov (City) with the best grade point average between the 5th and the 8th grade.

The idea is that the teacher should focus on students of all levels of learning in one class – the ones that are usually left behind as well as the more gifted ones, without boring either one of them. A good teacher knows how to encourage weaker students as well as good students to achieve better results thus being able to raise the average grades of all students.

It is also a chance to teach team work and a sense of community, as the better students will be motivated to help their fellow students that are not so good to get better grades so they could all win this contest.

    THE AWARD:
The class that has the best grade point average at the end of 2010 will get a fully paid trip to a summer camp in Germany specialized on First Aid.

The students will be trained how to recognize each respective situation that needs the administration of First Aid and also how to respond to it properly.

At the end of the First Aid course, the students will receive a diploma which can be the foundation for a career in the medical field such as becoming a paramedic later on.

Other than being an unusual fun event, the fact that it will take place after dark with the slope being illuminated by floodlights and the music blasting as well as a surprise opening show will give the event an extra attractive edge.
