Grenada: keep your kids occupied and dive the Bianca C
Grenada, WI (Global Adventures): If you are searching for a relaxing family vacation with the kids being occupied, Grenada might have the answer. The sun-drenched island in the West Indies has developed teen-only adventures to give the rest of the family a break.

Kids can take the first step to become marine biologists. With over 30 dive sites, Grenada and its sister islands have a lot to offer. Grenada and Carriacou are known for spectacular walls and wrecks, with sharks, turtles, lobsters and giant moray eels gliding against the backdrop of coral forest, reefs and sponges.

If hiking and bird watching is more interesting to your teens, they can go on a half-day rainforest trek through the 3,816-acre Grand Etang Forest and visit Concord Falls, a spectacular waterfall that offers a refreshing dip in the swimming hole after a four-mile hike.

Grand Etang Lake (one of Grenada’s extinct volcanoes) is a virtual bird watcher’s paradise. Teens will see rare tropical species that make Grenada their habitat such as the Grenada Dove (the national bird of the island), Gree-Gree, and Hook-Billed Kite.

If your kids like to take their memories home, they can take a beginner’s course in underwater photography. While diving or snorkeling in Moliniere Bay, they learn how to focus on the right objects. Artist Jason de Caires Taylor has placed 65-life size individual sculptures in shallow water (18ft in depth) so that teen divers or snorkelers can get easy shots from every angle. The statues not only create a beautiful landscape but also act as artificial reefs and will change appearances as they become home to various marine life.

If that’s not enough adventure, your kids can get wild while visiting Grenada. Located at the Balthazar Estate is Adventure River Tubing. Guides will introduce teens to an exotic paradise on a ride down river through tropical vegetation and wildlife.

While the rest of the family is occupied, experienced parent divers can explore the Bianca C, a passenger ship that sank on two occasions, the first time in France before being completed, and the second time after an explosion and fire just off the island of Grenada. The sister ship to the famous Andrea Doria lies in 165 feet (50 m) of water, about a mile from the popular tourist beach at Grand Anse. The enormous 600 feet long wreck is a favorite dive sport for Team Global, since it offers ample opportunities for both recreational and technical divers. The first deck-platform is reached in 100 feet of water.
