Hi all,
As my written german is not exactly what you would call strong and flawless, I'll be so bold as to write my post in english. Hope maybe someone can help with a german translation if someones requests it.
On my way home from this years ski-trip to Austria I meet a guy fiddling with a handheld computer, and out of my left eye I recogniced several of the old Amiga (and C64) classics like RType, Another World and several others. Out of pure joy of recognition I had to perform a forced interview on the poor guy to get information about his handheld computer. It turned out to be a GP2X handheld linux compatible machine. Its brilliant because it currently has a large (and growing) base of devoted developers creating specialized WinUAE (Amiga), C64, Nintendo, etc emulators for it, thus allowing to play all the games these emulators normally support.
Check out e.g. this page for more information and an online shop:
http://www.gp2x.de/
There should also be several GP2X .com and .co.uk sites.
I definitely have to get me one of these ;-)
It eats standard flash memory cards (don't remember the specific type) and you can thus always have thousands of great old classics right in the pocket for train, bus and plane rides.
Best Regards
Johannes

Hi Johannes,
it's something you might call a "Open Source" handheld. Unlike PSP and DS everyone is able to write programs for it. So there are a lot of programmer available. The problem is the poor graphic chip.
I don't think it is possible to emulate an Amiga on this hardware. But there are some "old school" games available.
I've seen a C64 emulator on a GP2X some weeks ago and it looked fine. So if you like to play C64 games then it will be a fine machine.
I don't have a GP2X myself so if you buy one it would be interesting to get some feedback from you in this forum.
Regards,
Andreas
