Lots of excitement in Rome these days.

Larry Gagosian just inaugurated a new gallery space with a show of Cy Twombly works. According to the Art Newspaper, Gagosian has already established a good network in the city. MACRO, Rome’s museum of contemporary art, has had recent shows devoted to two of his artists, the British artist Jenny Saville and the Egyptian Ghada Amer. And in 2005, Gagosian opened a temporary satellite gallery in the Palazzo Borghese that also doubled as the headquarters for work then being done on a new catalogue raisonné of Twombly’s work.

Also of particular note, at the beginning of next year there will be a new art fair in the city, produced by Daniela Salvioni and with an impressive advisory committee that includes Louise Neri (Gagosian Gallery, New York), Cornelia Lauf (Curator and Art Historian, Rome), and Giorgio Verzotti. It is expected to be the most international fair for contemporary art yet held in Italy. ARTEcontemporaneamodernaROMA will take place from 29 February – 2 March at the stunning Palazzo dei Congressi and promises to offer visitors a welcome change from the overheated tents and gigantic airport-hangar sized conference halls of most other fairs. This is the one to watch!
