Banking for Social Entrepreneurship Conference
June 19th – 20th 2009

“Social entrepreneurs find what is not working and solve the problem by changing the system, spreading the solution, and persuading entire societies to take new leaps.”
(Ashoka)
In 1819, Johann Baptist Weber saw the need to open the doors of a financial institution to common people. He founded “Erste Oesterreichische Spar-Casse” and pioneered a new way of banking. 190 years later, the context
has changed and yet the need of enabling financial independence is ever more relevant: As new challenges are
pressing and new solutions are emerging, the significant potential of banking to increase and sustain the created
impact in society becomes apparent.
Hosted by Erste Foundation, Erste Group and Česká Spořitelna in partnership with Ashoka and emersense,
“Banking for Social Entrepreneurship” seeks to uncover this potential and amidst turbulent times connect banks
and entrepreneurs on their social mission. Inviting drivers and enablers of positive change across CEE, a unique conferenc with a multitude of perspectives and a high level of engagement is created - common intent and aspiration at the core of the event: Jointly pioneering a new way of enabling lasting positive impact by finding new opportunities to leverage banking and social entrepreneurship in CEE.
