    Erster Überblick nach Cyclone Yasi
    Tourism Queensland:

    Tropical Cyclone Yasi crossed the Queensland coast around midnight on Wednesday 2 February as a category 5 cyclone. Yasi crossed the coat at Mission Beach near Tully in Tropical North Queensland (half-way between Cairns and Townsville).

    The Cyclone WARNING from Cardwell to Ayr and inland to Charters Towers has been cancelled.
    At 1:00 pm EST Tropical Cyclone Yasi, was downgraded to a category 1 system. A Cyclone WARNING is current for communities across the tropical interior from west of Charters Towers and south of Croydon extending to the Northern Territory border, including Mt Isa and Longreach. Tropical Cyclone Yasi continues to weaken, but is producing heavy rain and damaging wind gusts about the tropical interior. Local authorities are currently waiting for conditions to ease, before assessing the extent of the damage.
    Visitor safety is a key priority and as a result many tourism operations in the cyclone warning area between Cairns and the Tropical North and The Whitsundays have evacuated guests or have temporarily closed operations until the cyclone threat has passed.     The latest cyclone information can be found at http://www.bom.gov.au/cyclone. The Queensland Holidays website has cyclone and flood information that will be updated daily.
    Airport information - Most airports between Mackay and Cairns have reportedly re-opened this afternoon or early tomorrow, however please check with carriers for the most up-to-date information on flights schedules and airport operations.

    Tourism Queensland has been working with our industry, state and federal governments, RTOs, industry associations, Tourism Australia, retail and wholesale partners around the world, airlines and the media to gather and disseminate information.     Hallo,
    dass Cairns nun wenige Tage nach dem Sturm schon wieder exakt so aussieht wie vorher, würde ich nun nicht unbedingt erwarten. Von Bekannten vor Ort habe ich bisher noch keine Rückmeldung, wie's so aussieht. Aber noch sind wohl nach letzten Meldungen einige Haushalte ohne Strom und/oder Telefon und der Highway nach Cairns wurde auch erst heute wieder freigegeben.
    Was Touren zum Reef angeht, ruf doch am besten mal einen Veranstalter an. Die wissen sicher besser, wie die Lage ist, als die Xing-Mitglieder hier. Einige Tage dauert es sicher, bis sich das Wasser wieder beruhigt.

    wie mir eine Freundin, die Verwandte in Cairns hat, sagte, wurde dort nichts zerstoert. Die Stromversorgung ist in fast allen Haushalten wieder hergestellt, die Schulen oeffnen heute wieder. Zur Zeit ist es bewoelkt in Cairns, die ganze Woche soll es so bleiben, mit Regen. Ein Zyklon ist nicht vorausgesagt, doch das kann sich innerhalb einiger Tage ja schon wieder aendern. Grauer Himmel bedeutet keine gute Sicht auf das Riff und seine Bewohner. Es ist jetzt halt keine Saison in FNQ.

    November bis April, dass ist Zyklon Saison im Norden Queensland. Das sollte man bei Reisen in die Region um diese Jahreszeit natuerlich nicht ausser Acht lassen. Eine geniale Reisezeit fuer FNQ ist so um Mai/Juni - September/Oktober.

    Eine andere geniale Region ist Kangaroo Island in Suedaustralien. Auch dort lassen sich einmalige und unvergessliche Erlebnisse sammeln, dass ganz ohne Zyklone! Ein verlaengerter WE Trip lohnt sich allemal.
