Combining active and passive safety systems is a challenge for the engineer and a huge advantage for all of us: for drivers, pedestrians and the environment. The “sensitive” car is able to detect and classify several objects simultaneously, will intervene in critical situations without abdicating the responsibility from the driver. At the same time these complex systems must be completely reliable against interferences. Traffic without accidents will remain a vision; however, it is a goal well worth pursuing.
