Vying to host the 8th World Chambers Congress, two chamber hopefuls went head-to-head today with their bidding presentations at ICC headquarters in Paris.
The Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Qatar Chamber of Commerce and Industry both have their sights set on hosting the prestigious Congress when it returns to the Africa/Middle East region in 2013.
"Hosting the World Chambers Congress is an unrivalled opportunity to put cities and local businesses in the spotlight and develop trade and investment partnerships," said World Chambers Federation Chair Rona Yircali. “With two outstanding chambers in the running I predict a close competition and the judging panel will have their work cut out determining the most fitting candidate.”
Organized by the ICC World Chambers Federation (WCF) and held every two years in different regions of the world, the World Chambers Congress is the only international forum for chamber of commerce leaders to share best-practice experience, develop networks, learn about new areas of innovation from other chambers, and address the local business issues that count to the companies in their region. The 7th World Chambers Congress will be held in Mexico City 8-10 June 2011.
“In 2013 we will celebrate our 50th anniversary and our values of promoting peace and prosperity through business and commerce remain the same.” saidSheikh Khalifah Bin Jassim Bim Mohammed Al-Thani, President of the Qatar Chamber of Commerce and Industry. “Doha's bid is world class and we have very much enjoyed preparing our proposal to present to the distinguished selection committee members.”
Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry Director General, Hamad Buamim, said: “Facts and figures prove that no other city and chamber in the region can offer the level of international experience, technical know-how and the proven track-record that is needed to take the 8th World Chambers Congress to newer heights of success and prosperity.”
The Congress selection committee will assess each candidate based on a wide range of criteria from team experience, financial resources and strategic parnerships, to how the chamber would strengthen WCF’s links to the chamber community within the region, and utilize their connections worldwide.
The Congress selection committee is made up of WCF’s Chairmanship, past and upcoming Congress hosts, transnational chamber partners, and a cross section of chamber members from around the world. Following review of the dossiers, the successful candidate will be announced in November.
Chambers from around the world have expressed interest in hosting the World Chambers Congress up to the year 2017 and include potentials to host the 9th Congress due to take place in 2015 on the European continent. The Africa/Middle East region last hosted the congress in 2005 with the 5th World Chambers Congress in Durban, South Africa.
