  Sharjah authority calls for galvanising partnership with private sector

  As the tourism sector in the emirate of Sharjah grows more important, and as the need arises for more effective principles and standards to support the sector, cooperation between the government and private players has become a significant strategic option, Shaikh Sultan Bin Ahmad Al Qasimi, chairman of the Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority (SCTDA), said during a press conference to announce the Sharjah Tourism Excellence Award this week.
  
  Al Qasimi said the award encouraged establishments to support and contribute to the development of the tourism sector in Sharjah, putting the emirate in the lead on the international tourism scene.
  
  The Sharjah Tourism Excellence Award aims to encourage all tourism establishments to follow international standards, to contribute to the development of the tourism sector in Sharjah.
  
  The Sharjah Tourism Excellence Award ceremony is set to take place at the Sharjah Equestrian Club on April 28 under the patronage of Shaikh Sultan Bin Mohammad Bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Sharjah. During the event, organised by the SCTDA, the winners for 2009 will be honoured.
  
  The excellence award categories include:
  -Hotels (ranging from 1 to 5 stars)
  -Hotel apartments, across the deluxe, standard and basic sectors
  -Tour operators
  -Travel agencies
  -Airlines
  -SCTDA supporters
  -Shopping malls
  -Tour guides
  -Best tourism feature by the media
  -An award of appreciation, for establishments serving the tourism sector.
