In order to deliver great customer experience banks need to renew their core banking systems first. A core banking system is the most critical system of any bank. Over the last 15 years the core banking system packages of IT vendors did mature significantly. In 2015 we will see the peak of core banking system implementations. It is of vital interest to banks to have an understanding of the performance of these systems. In July and August 2011 I have asked more than 130 core banking system experts, globally about their experience with core banking systems packages. The survey provides clear differences between the core banking system packages.

    Thomas,

    very good questions!

How do you come to the conclusion that the master piece of cbs migrations will accumulate between 2014 and 2016?
I look at the start of cbs project, not finishing date. if I would look at how many cbs programs run in parallel this would plot a very different chart. - program run from 3-7 years (depends how you measure)

Why are many other players in the cbs market (as for example Avaloq, Finnova, etc.) not in scope of your landscape - did you focus on a dedicated branch or sector?
the eight are the ones which I see most important in a global context personally. other people may have a different perspective ...

    Hello Frank,

just reading your article. Looks interesting for me - some years back I was managing a core bank system selection project. I have to admit that during selection and during implementation personal experience might also change - and you are right: not the selection but the implementation is the biggest challange!

    Good overview!

    Janis,

    thank you for your comments

    I share your views & experience ...

When you say that an implementation project takes between 3 and 7 years (which also copes with my experience) do you expect that this timeframe will get shorter in the future?
The implementation in a green field can be much faster 3 to 24 month dependend on scope ...

Replacement / transformation of an existing IT landscape / CBS replacement of a bank - again dependend on scope - may speed up a little bit, say 18 month to 4,5 years - but only if people start training, learning and focus their professional life on this topic
