Tom's done it again! If you've read "The Lexus and the Olive Tree: Understanding Globalization", you know all about the keen insights of Pulitzer Prize winning author Thomas L. Friedman. In "The World Is Flat: A Brief History of the Twenty-First Century", Tom once again brings to light the plain truth about globalization. Read it and discover for yourself where we're headed. Overlook it at peril of obsolescence.
Also by Thomas L. Friedman: "From Beirut to Jerusalem" (winner of the National Book Award) and "Longitudes and Attitudes: The World in the Age of Terrorism".

I second this, "The world is flat" is a brilliant work that insightfully argues for what the forces behind globalization are and what we can expect from an ever flattening world.
Tom also has a checkilist of things that you might wish to implement if you and your children would stay competitive in a flat world.
The book has is a bit too focussed on the US in parts and does not explore some topics except form a US perspective and it is still worth reading no matter where you are from.
The core message is that telecommunications improvements and rampant globalisation have removed many of the barriers between different regions in the world thus levelling the global playing field thus the world is now flatter than ever before.
Another point is that we missed the rise of outsourcing due to the dot bomb bubble which distracted us from the effect super cheap global telecommunications is having.
All in all this is a must read for anyone who wants to stay in the business world.
