Hi everyone
I am a former BBC reporter who now offers training courses to help campaigners, managers, politicians and spokespeople prepare for TV and other media interviews.
To be interviewed by the media can be a scary experience.
To be interviewed in English, if English is not your first language, can be more scary.
To deal well with assertive Anglo Saxon interviewers is harder still.
But campaigns need publicity, and if you want your important messages to be heard internationally, this is what you have to do.
I can prepare you for this experience. I will explain how the media work. I will coach you in how to turn your campaign messages into media stories, how to tell those stories in the most convincing way, and how to work on your voice, posture and body language so that they don't distract attention from what you're saying.
Much of the day is spent in role-playing realistic news-style interviews for newspapers, radio or TV. They are filmed in an authentic setting, as if for a TV news broadcast.
They are then played back and analysed in a supportive group environment.
The preamble, the explanations and the feedback can be in English, German, French or (to a limited extent) Spanish. I say that because my Spanish is basic, but I can try!
I also coach media & PR professionals in journalistic and writing skills.
Most of my experience has been in the UK - including several politicians who are past or present members of the Cabinet - but last summer I coached two Ethiopian media executives on how the Western media works, and I'm about to visit the Middle East, where I will be advising one country's government ministers on how to deal with media interviews.
I'd be delighted to talk to the organisers of campaigns of all kinds - commercial, political, social - anywhere in the world.
Kind regards
Tony Coll
