Shall we open up this group to non-XING members?
One quick question by the moderators to all of you: Shall we open up our group to non-XING members, which means that all Web surfers would be able to read your posts on the Internet? So far only XING members are able to read your posts.

If we open the group anyone will be able to read your posts but still has to sign up at XING in order to post a message or to get in touch with you.

What do you think? Any opinions? Comments?

    Thank you for your opinions!

I'd just to make one thing clear: The opening-up would be a "read-only" (!) for people outside of XING.

That means if you want to write or comment on something in this group you still have to sign up. So I personally don't really expect spam.

On the other hand all your questions and postings could be read by people outside of XING (however they will not be able to see your name and company unless they sign up to XING - so it is "content only and read only" for non XING members). This could be a big advantage fot all members.

    So what do you think?

    Christian

P.S.: We had some people spaming this group, too. Usually they either stop after the moderator tells them to stop or they give up after some time anyways...

Re^4: Shall we open up this group to non-XING members?
    Hi, everybody.

I also would prefer NOT to open this group for non-XING-members.
Right now I do not see any further benefit - for group members as well as non-goup members who only have reading-rights.
If the intention is, to do some advertising for our group by opening it, i would genearlly agree with it. But as far as I know, it is already possible to find entries or names / persons according to a specific theme through some searching maschine.
And the interested "finder" will surely than join the group to post some statements or enlarge his / hers network...

Or what is the main reason / benefit for opening the group ?

    Thanks and regards,
    Michael

Re^5: Shall we open up this group to non-XING members?
    Hi Michael,

Thank you for your opinion. Well, the main benefit would be that everyone on the Web would be able to see e.g. your service offering posted in this group. Or your job search request. Or your very valuable contributions to the group so that also external people who don't even know XING would be able to read your comments and maybe get in touch with you (after signing up to XING - as I mentioned: this would anyways be "read only" and nobody would be able to see your real name or post anything unless he/she signs up).

"CLOSED GROUP" means: Only XING members are able to see the contents of this group. After becoming a member of this group the XING members are also able to post.

"OPENED-UP GROUP" means: The content pages will be crawled by Google, people who are not XING member will be able to find the contents of this group. In order to post or get in touch with someone they still have to sign up at XING first ( and then become a member of the Greater China group).

It would also be advertisement for the group itself. We would be able to attract China interested people on the Web without being restricted to people who are already XING members.

I personally wouldn't mind opening-up the group (read only for non XING members). But not if I as the moderator am the only one...

    Thanks again,

    Christian

Thank you for your postings, Sandra. However I couldn't find any but these two in the group, so I am not sure which ones you mean you don't want to be read by non-XING members. (Well, just my little thought...)

Anyways, I'd be really curious how WeightWatchers is doing in China, btw. Is there a noticeable increase in your business (however, this would be a totally different thread).
