    Direction of Higher Education Globalization

When we enter the new century, we find ourselves in a world where globalization has almost touched every corner. Economy, culture, and politics have all been tainted with the color of globalization. Education, especially higher education in no exception. We can see that national education throughout the world in no the way of globalization.

Higher education, or university education has always been closely related to the time it is in. In the Middle Ages, European university take the form of “guild” where knowledge is taught, while in modern times, universities take up the obligation to cultivate all kinds of social elites. In the same light, contemporary universities begin to get more involved in the society at a faster pace and act as a major driving force for human progress and development. In the age of globalization, society becomes an international community, and internationalization becomes an outstanding feature of contemporary universities.

Internationalization is the orientation for the development of Chinese higher education. It is both a opportunity and challenge. Chinese Universities have grown out of what we modeled on the West in modern times, and only have a short history of 100 years. Due to the historical socioeconomic and cultural restrictions, the internationalization of higher education in China has not been well developed. Given the situation, only by development with leaps and bounds can we align our universities with the world's leading universities in its concept, system, and organization. Essentially it requires us to participate in the internationalization of education actively, by promoting international exchange and cooperation, drawing on each other's experience, and marking progress hand in hand.

It is mainly since the Chinese reform and opening to the outside world that the international cooperation between universities in China and the world, especially the West thrives. But we still need to keep up with the latest trend of development in international higher education, and explore the depth and width of international cooperation and exchange.
