Hello All
My name is Craig Embleton. I am currently living in Bristol in the UK writing my MSc thesis which is entitled:
What is the potential for reducing atmospheric CO2 levels through solar-desalinated-irrigation-driven environmental restoration in the Middle East and North Africa?
I'm looking are the data generated by the DLR, particularly the AQUA study and relating this to to soil science, vegetation growth rates and environmental restoration studies. Basically I'm trying to estimate how much carbon could be transferred annually from the atmosphere to soil and vegetation if the MENA deserts were transformed to productive ecosystems by irrigation with desalinated seawater.
I hope to demonstrate that not only can the Desertec concept halt CO2 emissions, if desalination water is used carefully it can also actually lower CO2 emissions.
At the end of my thesis I intend to push forward with a real world trial.
Best wishes
Craig

Hi Oliver
I have now completed my thesis . The title changed slightly to : “What is the potential for reducing atmospheric CO2 levels through solar-desalinated irrigated vegetation of the Sahara and Arabian deserts?”
It is available for download here:
