Taxi fares take a hike tonight

Taxi fares are set to increase from midnight tonight.

The new charges mean the cost of hailing a cab will rise to E4.10. A premium rate of E4.45 will apply at other times, on Sundays and during public holidays.
This rate will also apply on 24-26 December and 31 December - 1 January, as according the Commission for Taxi Regulation there is an under supply of taxis around Christmas.

Passengers who soil vehicles will now be liable to pay a E140 surcharge - an increase of E15.
