Dear Friends,
On this day August 15th 1947 ..India achieved its birth as a sovereign nation… achieving independence from British rule. The day is celebrated with a national holiday…

It very much reminds me of my dear Father, John Burgess Urquhart, a good man...a good Father... who was a manager in Rolls Royce Aerospace.
During periods of time in the early sixties, he was seconded to the Indian Air Force. ...
He inspired in me a love of India which grows more profound with the passing years Mother India touches the... essence of my soul..for which I shall be eternally grateful
The Bhagavad Gita, The Mahabharata,The Upanishads, Ayurveda, The Ancient Teaching of Yoga, so many, wonderful books, influences... so many inspiring people.... ..Mahatma Gandhi, being a significant source of authentic power, on how to conduct your life, to inspire... and be inspired by others.
Architecture, fabrics, use of colour and spices. ..all touch my soul...and my soul smiles in gratitude Mother India has Blessed my soul well, and I will be, for ever... grateful
I have loved from afar.... .I vision for myself...one day of having the joy of visiting.
Mother India My soul embraces thy oneness thy mystery touches and intrigues me thy vastness sings to my heart stretching my imagination all creativity is divinely stirred from this place of wonder alchemy unfolds taking me ever nearer to sensing thy essence scenting thy divine aroma a bitter /sweet infusion enfolds me irradiating me with warmth sending me to divine heights from this coin of vantage all life I do espy such a privilege to be so held by one so loved. India Mother India How sweet how resonant she sounds India India India reverberates through my soul capturing my heart with myriad tales of daring do stirring my youthful imagination giving such magical boyhood memories beginning a life long love affair pursued energetically from afar perfect in its purity aspirational in its depth teaching ever teaching me through the alchemy of her ways ..

Dear Jani..
Please excuse the apparent tardiness in my reply:)
life is increasingly full...for which I am well blessed and blessing:)
India was very much a part of my childhood memories.
My father's Indian business associates became his good friends and
would visit us when they were over in the UK. The "Nehru suit" was a popular form of apparel
with them.
My father's main base I remember was Bangalore..though he travelled relatively widely.
My father was the classical strong silent type..so when he did choose to speak..
it was always judiciously....I never ever heard him speak ill of another...
He used to write to my Mother every night..the pen slipping in the steamy heat....
....which was one of my father's enduring memories of India....its heat and stunning light:)
He was captivated by the energy and friendliness of the people..
and as an engineer could appreciate the quality of Indian craftsmanship..
The Surreal beauty of the Taj Mahal living long in his memory.
Thanks dear Om..for letting me have a few moments to share my father with you:)
Grace and gratitude
