Sharjah-based budget carrier Air Arabia said its Egyptian subsidiary has received Air Operators Certificate (AOC) from the Egyptian Civil Aviation Authority, clearing the way for the imminent launch of Air Arabia Egypt, the carrier's Alexandria-based joint venture company.
This will be the third hub for the region's first and largest budget carrier, following Sharjah and Morocco.
Formed in cooperation with the Travco Group, the Middle East's largest travel and hospitality group, Air Arabia Egypt's operations from Alexandria's Burj Al Arab Airport will start beginning of June with flights to Khartoum and Kuwait.
The new carrier will serve the Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) markets, and represents Air Arabia's third hub after the UAE and Morocco.
Air Arabia operations from Egypt will start with two aircraft serving selective number of destinations across the region.
Shaikh Abdullah Bin Mohammad Al Thani, Chairman of Air Arabia Group said: "Air Arabia is continuously expanding to offer a wider segment of customers the best value for money choice for air travel. We are confident that Air Arabia 'Egypt' will pursue the success path that our hubs in the UAE and Morocco have followed, by complementing our ever growing network of destinations."

Air Arabia Egypt, a subsidiary of Sharjah-based Air Arabia, yesterday launched its first flight from Borg Al Arab International Airport in Alexandria to Khartoum, Sudan.
Flights are being operated with two Airbus 320s.
Adel Ali, chief executive of Air Arabia Group, said he would add three to four aircraft to the new base as it grows its destinations.
New routes between Kuwait, Amman and Beirut will soon begin, the company said.
Jointly owned by Air Arabia and Egypt's tourism company Travco Group, the airline, based in a country with a population of over 81 million, will target key cities across Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
Planning to grow "organically", the low-cost carrier's current fleet comprises 23 new Airbus A320 and it is waiting to take delivery of four aircraft in 2010 and six in 2011.
The launch comes as the low-cost carrier nears completion of the first year of operations of Air Maroc, based in Casablanca, Morocco.
"Working together with the Travco Group, with whom we share a vision of facilitating the economic growth and positive contribution to the Egyptian tourism sector, we remain committed to creating further opportunities for affordable and reliable travel across this young and vibrant region," Ali said.
