    Sweat, 7 up, Tom Jones
    Summer, 2009, Shanghai
Another hot summer season, it has been high temprature for a few days. I don't like the air conditioning, so every day when I am working, I can feel the sweat coming out of my forehead, then falling down.

This kind of sweat always brings me back to the summer of 1998. I was doing my bachelor study in Shanghai after quitting my job. Since it is a part-time self-study program, I have to study during the day by myself, taking some classes in the evening. I don't have place to live, no money to rent an apartment, so I moved into my sister's dormitary in her university.

It was summer holiday, there was plenty of empty beds there, total 8 beds, only my sister and I live there every day. She is a new teacher in Chinese TCM university, she couldn't have the holiday because she had to teach the overseas students for the summer program. Therefore, just two of us lived in this almost empty building. Then the building was under the rennovation, the workers were painting the wall outside. To prevent the dust and smell, we had to close the window all the time. During the day, we just sat opposite to each other and read our own books. The sweat fell from the face to the body, it is like taking a sauna. After one or two hours, we would take a break. We would play the songs of Tom Jones from a tape. His voice can really motivate us when we are exhausted by the studying and the heat. We played this tape over and over, we can sing every song. It was our fun time.

In the evening, after I finished my class, I would meet my sister at the front gate of the university. When we met, we would go to the supermarket nearby and bought a big bottle of cold 7 up. We opened and drank together in the dormitary. After a whole hectic day, that's the moment we could really relax and felt cool. Then we will chat about our day and our progress.

That year, I passed five courses altogether, which built up my confidence greatly. Then I started to work again and continue the part-time study. Finally I completed the bachelor degree in 3.5 years. When I looked back, that year is still the most exciting year for me and my sister. Our sisterhood is very solid until now. We encourage each other to achieve better results for our lives. She now settled down in Adelaide, Australia and running her private clinic on acupuncture, had healed over 500 patients. I am so proud of her.

So, I am still enjoying the sweat, 7 up and Tom Jones' songs.
