Simply expressed, diversity can be defined as a state of difference; dissimilitude; unlikeness. It is the quality of being different. But we do not wish to leave it at that.
People in all walks of life, be it with business, political, academic or non-profit organisations permanently have to deal with the diversity of their organisations, both in their workforce and in serving their heterogeneous customer base, and in contact with their partners. Diversity can enrichen, but at the same time lend great complexity to central issues.
The aim of Diversity Management is to recognise and use the potential of workforce diversity, reduce barriers, increase harmony, and thereby achieve a competitive advantage.
Additionally, selective diversity strategies can be developed, and measures taken to help the members of an organisation gain additional competencies on the diversity level.
This group has the following main objectives:
- to raise the consciousness of Diversity Management in all its aspects (gender, age, ethnical-cultural origin, religion or belief, disability, sexual orientation)
- to promote the subject in the public interest
- to offer an information and discussion platform for the exchange of ideas, views and experiences
- to see Diversity Management as part of a complete business strategy, to be included in Marketing and other relevant areas
- to focus on organisations and success stories
