How To ... find an appartment
    Hej,

After exactly six years, I still don't really know how to find an apartment. And now I'm not talking about the 2nd-hand renting. The first years I could live in a student dormitory, always thinking of moving abroad again. Then I got a contract, and I'm still here. But now without a place to live. With 2nd hand I had some unfortunate experiences, like canceling the contract after a short time. Is there a way besides the long, long queues to find a nice apartment to rent like you do it in other countries?
    How do you live?

    Regards,
    /Heide

    Hi there,

It just so happens that I recently wrote an article on this very subject which you might find helpful. The article was published in the fall 2006 issue of South of Sweden Magazine and on my blog called Corpus Bon Vivant. You can download the PDF of the magazine from http://www.sosmag.com or find the article on http://www.laurelwilliams.com. The article is titled: A place to call 'hem'. You will also see an article about how to buy a 'bostadsrätt' apartment on the blog and in the winter 2006 issue of the South of Sweden Magazine. Let me know if you have any luck.

    Cheers,

    Laurel

Yes, I was lucky. I found an apartment to rent, not second hand, no, a normal renting contract, without waiting 20 years - people congratulate me like I won in some lottery. Ok, I recognize it was pure luck, because I was "först till kvarn" as you say in Swedish.
Here some useful web sites for everybody else looking for an apartment to rent in Stockholm (no second hand, no buying):
http://www.wallenstam.se ("early bird gets the worm")
    http://www.einarmattsson.se (some kind of list?)
    http://www.stenafastigheter.se (some kind of list?)
    http://www.signalisten.se (lottery)
http://www.bostad.stockholm.se (waiting list with astronomic waiting times, rarely "early bird gets the worm")
http://www.sollentunahem.se (waiting list and sometimes "early bird gets the worm")

Re^4: How To ... find an appartment
I put an add in the local newspaper saying I wanted to rent a villa or rädhuset in Malmö. Within a few days I found a place close to my children's school and in a great neighborhood. (Off of Bellvuevågan)

I will say this. For a city of 250,000 plus the addional few hundred thousand in Skåne the rental market is extremely tight.

On the other hand their is a high demand.

I have not been here long enough to prevent me from putting my foot in my mouth but it seems building a few apartment buildings may be in order.........Rentals but a bit more exclusive for the Tetra Pack/Sony Ericsson community and so forth.......

For second-hand renting in Sweden and Copenhagen/Öresund (mostly short term) you find apartments and villas for rent on this multi-lingual unique FREE to use site:
    http://www.locationpartners.com/lazybee/
tip: create a free ad of what you're looking for and get emails when matching apartments/villas come in etc

    good luck!
