Marketing Coordinator
POSITION SUMMARY
Reporting to the Directors of OktoberBierfest you will quickly develop a thorough understanding of the workings of the event, its marketing strategy and the elements of the marketing plan. Equipped with this knowledge you will manage a range of commercial and marketing projects. High levels of efficiency, attention to detail and good time management skills will be integral to your success in the role. Ownership and autonomy will be promoted and initiative and a pro-active approach will be strongly encouraged.
OKTOBER BIERFEST – A BACKGROUND
OktoberBierfest is an authentic Bavarian bier festival modelled on the Munich Oktoberfest. It was established in South Africa in 2011.
Housed in a 2,000 seater Bavarian bier hall adorned with authentic décor guests are served food and beer by a team of experienced frauleins to their respective 12 seater beer benches. An array of entertainment available – from a genuine Oompah band through to mainstream acts. A range of traditional Oktoberfest games are provided – strong man, balloon and darts, hammer and nails. All purchases at OktoberBierfest are made using “crowns”.
4 cities will play host to OktoberBierfest in 2012 including Cape Town, Durban, Pretoria and Johannesburg during the months of September and October.

REPORTING PROCESS
You will report directly to the Directors of OktoberBierfest. Weekly “Work in Progress“ meetings will be conducted and a formal performance appraisal process will be employed. Performance will be measured against assigned tasks, milestones and ongoing responsibilities using key performance indicators.
OFFICE HOURS AND LOCATION
Pre-Tour
Monday – Friday. 8am – 5pm. Some out of hours work may also be required. The offices of OktoberBierfest are located in the Southern Suburbs of Cape Town.
Tour
Before, during and after each event throughout the months of September and October you will be required to work much longer hours than the pre-tour period. There will be extensive travel to the venues listed above and whilst on tour you will be provided with 3 star hotel accommodation.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
You will work closely with the Director’s of OktoberBierfest on all of the company’s commercial and marketing projects and activities.
There will be opportunities for you to manage major elements of ongoing projects on an adhoc basis.
Your role will involve in-depth research, analysis and execution of OktoberBierfests marketing strategy and plan.
Your role will involve the update and maintenance of OktoberBierfests online and social media platforms including but not limited to website, e-newsletters, twitter, facebook and instagram.
Your role will involve the preparation of major presentation and pitch documents.
Your role will involve extensive liaison and relationship management with clients, suppliers and service partners.
You may be asked to assist with basic office administration activities from time to time – answering phones, making appointments etc.
You will assist the Director’s of OktoberBierfestas required.
SELECTION CRITERIA
You will have a basic understanding of the Media, Advertising, Sponsorship, Eventing and Entertainment Industries.
You will have a strong desire to learn and further increase your skills and experience.
You will have recognised tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline.
You will be highly literate and grammatically astute with a sharp eye for detail. Journalistic abilities are a bonus.
You will have solid time management and organisational skills with a real focus on “follow through”.
You will have a strong, confident and professional manner.
You will have a high degree of computer literacy with a sound knowledge of Microsoft Office Programs and Applications. Knowledge of Mac Operating Systems is a bonus.
You will have at least 2 - 3 years of previous experience in a similar role.
REMUNERATION AND EMPLOYMENT TERMS
The position is strictly a contract position for a fixed period from June 1st 2012 until the end of November 2012. There may be a possibility of contract extension at the discretion of the Directors of OktoberBierfest. A 2-week probation/notice period will apply. Remuneration is R13,000 per month paid on the 25th of each month.
