  VAT increase in the UK - Opportunity for Ireland?

  The subject of loss of business to cross-border shopping has long been up for debate. However, with the latest development of the VAT rate in the UK increasing to 20%, this might be an unexpected stimulus for the customer spending in Ireland. Should the Government take this opportunity to lower the VAT rate in Ireland in an attempt to completely reverse the cross-border shopping trend and in fact encourage more spending from the North in the South?
