    Ed Autry bio

He started as a Top 40 disc jockey with Radio Southwest, Inc., at KOLE 1340 AM in Port Arthur, Texas in May of 1972. That fall, he attended Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas, as a broadcasting major. He joined the U.S. Air Force and by November of 1980 had become a broadcaster with the Armed Forces Radio and Television Service.

Half a world away, Ed was assigned to Incirlik (IN-jur-lick) Air Base, a small base about 30 miles north of the Mediterranean Sea, in south-central Turkey. There, he served mostly in television news as reporter, weekend news anchor, hosted a television news magazine program, and did a midnight to 6 a.m. radio show heard throughout the Republic of Turkey.

In 1983, Ed was assigned to Headquarters Air Defense Weapons Center, Tyndall Air Force Base, Florida where he was promoted to Non-Commissioned-Officer-In-Charge-of-Broadcasting, supervising another broadcaster and providing a weekly news story called "The Tyndall Report"which aired on WMBB-TV Channel 13, the local ABC affiliate.

In 1984 he received orders another location, Headquarters American Forces Korea Network (AFKN) at Yongsan Army Garrison, in Seoul, Korea. There, his afternoon drive-time Top 40 radio show called "Rollin' Home" was broadcast by all six radio affiliates throughout the Republic of Korea. After one year at AFKN, he was promoted to AFKN Network FM Supervisor, serving as Chief Programmer of the AFKN-FM ‘Superstation’, a 24 source automated music system, and supervising six other broadcasters.

When he retuned to the U.S. in 1986, he was puzzled when he discovered he was being assigned to an audiovisual squadron, but then discovered why. He was to be the production supervisor creating classified video productions for the FBI, the CIA, and the National Security Agency.

After active duty, Autry served as News Director and News Anchor for K35C0 "Eye 35 TV", Cameron, Missouri, and wrote the Standard Operation Procedures for the news department.

As an Air Force reservist, at Headquarters Air Force News Agency, Kelly AFB, Texas, Ed hosted and produced "Air Force Radio News", carried by all radio affiliates of Armed Forces radio worldwide. Autry was awarded two Air Force Commendation Medals and one Air Force Achievement Medal for his work in military broadcasting.

He now owns Ed Autry Voiceovers (http://www.EdAutryVoiceovers.com) where he provides professional voiceovers for Radio and Television Commercials, Business and Corporate Videos, Narration and Documentaries, Telephone System Recordings and yes, even... Character Voices.
