Global (Technical) Support Services
The VMware Global Support Services (GSS) team supports over 10,000 companies running VMware servers in over 100 different countries. GSS provides time-zone optimized coverage throughout five support centers globally. The GSS team supports the entire suite of VMware products for global customers and partners and participates in developing new products and new versions of current products. GSS team members also participate in product delivery strategy, product documentation, discussion forums with customers, and expert documents publishing. Job Description
Engineers support over 6,000 companies running VMware servers in over 100 different countries. They support the entire suite of VMware products for global customers and partners, interfacing with them via the phone, email, and web. They resolve customer technical issues through diligent research, reproduction, and troubleshooting utilizes system administration, networking, and storage skills.
Responsibilities
Respond to customer inquiries, primarily via email (70%) and telephone (30%)
Resolve and customer technical issues through diligent research, reproduction, and troubleshooting.
Work directly with staff in quality assurance, engineering, sales, marketing, operations, and administration to resolve problems
Document all technical inquiries; develop and review content for knowledgebase
Provide training or assistance to junior staff
Participate in testing alpha and beta products
Requirements
Experience in providing technical support to enterprise customers or software customers
Excellent interpersonal skills
Strong in spoken and written English & German
Working knowledge of Linux, Microsoft (Windows Server 2003, Windows 2000, Windows NT, Windows 98, 95, and 3.1; MS-DOS), plus x86 platforms, devices, and networking
Experience with operation and administration of Linux or Unix systems
or
Experience with operation and administration of Windows NT or Windows 2000 systems
Highly Preferred Skills
Hands on experience with VMware ESX Server or VMware products
Experience in working with development organizations in a new product introductions role
Technical Certifications (MCSE, CCNA, Linux Certifications etc.)
Strong Linux or UNIX administration skills Familiarity with the installation and configuration of Linux or UNIX operating systems
Setup and operation of TCP/IP networking on Linux or UNIX systems
Ability to program and debug Perl administration scripts
Good practical working ability with UNIX utilities, including editors and command shells
At least 4 to 6 years of related software and hardware experience
B.S. in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Math, or equivalent work experience
