A group of international banks has given a major boost to the Irish financial services sector by placing a range of massive new funds here, according to a report this morning.
The Irish Times says the 13 new investment funds could be worth up to 90bn euro.
Theyhave been placed here by Source UK, the paper says, which is a joint venture between Morgan Stanley, Goldman Sachs and Bank of America Merrill Lynch.
Source UK has also placed 22 exchange-traded commodity products here.
The paper quotes Barry McGrath, partner with law firm Maples and Calder, which acted as legal adviser on the product launch, as saying that Source UK had considered multiple jurisdictions such as Luxembourg, the Cayman Islands and Britain.
But it had eventually selected Ireland as the best location in which to base its product platform.
