A total of 26,000 cars are to be recalled by Toyota in Ireland as part of the auto maker's global recall to fix a potential problem with their accelerators. The company says it wants to check certain cars sold here within specific date periods from a list of eight model ranges, including Corolla, Avensis, RAV4 and Auris.
The Japanese company is recalling 2.3m cars worldwide after revealing that in rare cases an accelerator could stick or not return to idle.
It says the problem could arise because of wear and tear in the accelerator mechanism.
Separately, Honda is recalling nearly 3,000 cars in Ireland as part of a worldwide recall of the company's Jazz model.
It says all Jazz models sold here between 2002 - 2009 need to be checked because of concern that an electric window switch in the driver's door could could short circuit if it gets wet.
And 97,000 Peugeot 107s and Citroen C1s made in a Czech factory shared with Toyota are also being recalled.
No Peugeots and only two individual Citroens will be recalled in Ireland.
