Re: Save the date: The Hunger Project 2009 Fall Event!
    Dear All,

As you know, THP has powerful strategies that empower people to lead lives of self-reliance. In the coming months, we will be launching the long-term strategic direction to scale up our work as never before. The new commitment by world leaders provides enormous opportunity, as issues of world hunger are again in the world spotlight.

Our annual gala event weekend will address this opportunity and what role THP is to play. The theme is: It's Time! Scaling Up THP to Achieve a Hunger-Free Future.

Please find more information about the event weekendon October 24-25, 2009) here:

The Hunger Project Global office is delighted to announce that The Hunger Project's 2009 Fall Event will feature renowned author and philosopher, Peter Singer:

"With Prof. Singer's most recent book, The Life You Can Save: Acting Now to End World Poverty, he hopes to change our worldwide culture of giving. He calls on readers who can afford to contribute to give a modest proportion of their income to effective organizations fighting extreme poverty.

Prof. Singer's leadership and voice on the issues that matter most to humanity are an inspiration to millions.

Peter Singer has been Ira W. DeCamp Professor of Bioethics in the University Center for Human Values at Princeton University since 1999. From 2005 on, he has also held the part-time position of Laureate Professor at the University of Melbourne, in the Centre for Applied Philosophy and Public Ethics.

Prof. Singer was born in Melbourne, Australia, in 1946, and educated at the University of Melbourne and the University of Oxford. He has taught at the University of Oxford, La Trobe University and Monash University, and has held several other visiting appointments.

Prof. Singer first became well-known internationally after the publication of Animal Liberation in 1975. Since then he has written many other books, including Practical Ethics; The Expanding Circle; How Are We to Live?, The Way We Eat (with Jim Mason) and most recently, The Life You Can Save. His works have appeared in more than 20 languages.
