  • Intro: Things make it happen, discover, work together and use synergies… 25 Oct 2009, 1:46 pm

    Hello together,

at first I would like to introduce my self and would be happy to get in contact to other members.

I am working since 20Jahre as Consultant in the Oracle environment and business area.
I’ve hold a variety of the project roles like:
    - project manager,
    - team lead,
    - solution architect,
    - requirement engineer,
    - business analyst ,
    - DBA,
    - development
    - coaching (e.g. SCRUM).

As cert. SCRUM master I have methods of SCRUM (agile project management) successfully introduced and extend in internat. large projects, but even other methods like v-model, RUP, CMMI are well known too.

As SPOC (single point of contact) I was responsible to coordinate the team development on both sides
    - the client- and the near- / offshore site.

    Areas:
    - Finance (banks, debt collection, debt card credit card management),
    - Telco (OSS/BSS NG architecture),
    - IT (Oracle database, data warehouse processing),
    - Authorities

    Roles:
    - project management/line (ITPL, TPL, SCRUM master)
    - requirement engineering, business analysis
    - solution architect
    - data modelling, database design, tuning
    - coaching, training

    Dear Mr. Langjahr,

Thank you for your introduction and we welcome you to Indescon!

As cert. SCRUM master I have methods of SCRUM (agile project management) successfully introduced and extend in internat. large projects, but even other methods like v-model, RUP, CMMI are well known too.
I would like to know your views on how you perceive SCRUM and AGILE methods being used successfully in offshore software development projects?

Are SCRUM and Agile models that can be applied to offshore projects, or is the classical waterfall model the only way?

    Thank you

    Hello Mr. Chalasani,

    many thanks for your feedback.

    your questions:
    1) I would like to know your views on how you perceive SCRUM and AGILE methods being used successfully in offshore software development projects?
    2) Are SCRUM and Agile models that can be applied to offshore projects, or is the classical waterfall model the only way?

at 1: I think i'ts not a question where the team ist located (inhouse - offshore) and how the project is organized.
I'ts more a question of org structure, communication and responcibility (main facts).
SCRUM is an easy way to keep a project "simple", increase transparence for both business and IT side, manage teams,...

    at 2: YES, of course! (I'm a SCRUMer (;:-) )
I'ts the same as I answered above - you can setup SCRUM or other agile models for offshore projects (teams) too.
We have introduce SCRUM and setup 6 teams (inhouse and near-/offshore) for implementing a big telco project (btw they started first with a standard PM methode and lost in (meeting)time...)
Normally you have 2 Teams (party responsible) on both sites, each team has it's own SCRUM Master and product owner.
All parties (business - IT) have to know about their roles and responsibility, have to accept, support and finally celebrate SCRUM in the right way (non pseudo SCRUM).

I hope I could answer your questions
please feel free to contact me for more details

    Kind regards

    Dieter Langjahr
