About Vidya
VIDYA is a registered non-governmental organization dedicated to the empowerment of India’s socially disadvantaged people.

VIDYA NGO was founded in 1984 by Rashmi Misra. It initially started in IIT with volunteers teaching basic Maths and Hindi to slum children.

Vidya's Mission Statement:
"To educate and empower less privileged women and children through integrated methods and to bring about progressive social change."

VIDYA has grassroots level development programmes in some of the poorest neighbourhoods in New Delhi, Mumbai and Goa.
Holistic education at pre-school, primary and secondary school levels
Remedial Education
NIOS (National Institute of Open Schooling) for dropouts
Adult literacy and vocational skills development
Health, nutrition and family planning centres
Income-generating programmes including micro-credit programs
VIDYA is largely volunteer-driven.
All of VIDYA’s programmes are managed by volunteers from across the globe.
Many of the creative training methods were conceived and implemented by volunteers.
The network of volunteers is widespread and a strong “Friends of VIDYA” network exists in the UK and the USA.
For over 25 years Vidya has been educating and empowering the less privileged women, children and youth in Delhi, Mumbai and Goa. It has been a fantastic story of growth from the humblest beginnings. Now VIDYA stands before tremendous opportunities, while also facing new challenges as it endeavours on its mission.
