Patents listed in the United States Food and Drug Administration"s Orange Book protect some of the highest-selling and most valuable inventions in the world.

Yet the United States laws and regulations governing the protection of pharmaceutical inventions are unique and complex. Furthermore, the process of listing a patent in the FDA Orange Book can sometimes have unforeseen complications.

The aim of this course is to help European practitioners gain a basic understanding of this special legal and regulatory framework so that they may develop better strategies for protecting pharmaceutical inventions.

The course will summarize key features of the Hatch-Waxman Act and the ANDA litigation process, and will also cover the procedure for Orange Book listing and the preparation of a patent application for listing.
