A question regarding extort`ion of professional knowledge in interviews
    Hello members of this group,
Im new to this group and am interested to know more about current thinking on this forum topic. You can look up my background in my profile. This is my post to the group,

Many years ago I was interviewed by the HR group of Corning Incorporated in New York state, United States. The HR professional was very careful in choosing their words in asking me questions about my career accomplishments, and went on to express that such type of questioning was a delicate matter.

In my career i have been involved in many interviews, and know that an interviewer can ask 'what' a person has done to accomplish something in their past work, but must be cautious in asking 'how' a person accomplished some specific aspect of their past work.

I believe this touches on the area of privacy of information or knowledge. It may be called 'trade secrets' or 'intellectual property'. This is a question to the members of this group.

I have been interviewed more than once in my career by interviewers interested to learn of how i had accomplished something particular in a past job, with that being the objective of the interview. There was no intention to consider me for the position. A form of extortion it would seem; if you don`t offer the insight or idea, which only you know, you don`t get the job, and risk giving away the insight with no job offer to follow.

How is this situation dealt with in legal terms? Is it to be considered intellectual property?; trade secrets, professional knowledge/insights, or by some other description.

Re^2: A question regarding extort`ion of professional knowledge in interviews
I believe most of us are aware of the pitfalls in the recruitment process. I am hoping to tap into the legal advice of members for a possible method to protect oneself, and their company, from intellectual piracy in the business process.
