17.11 | Prophets and Visionaries Reuven Rubin's Early Years: 1914-1923
Although much is known about Rubin's Israeli oeuvre, his pre-Israeli years have hardly been studied. During some nine years, from 1914 until 1923, Rubin worked mainly in his homeland, Romania. This exhibition and catalogue shed light on the lesser-known period in Rubin's career, showing a number of works that are exhibited here for the first time. These paintings depict religious experiences of a profound personal nature, Biblical themes, Zionist ideas, and the image of Jesus, revealing the young Rubin as a complex, powerful, and highly original artist.
