Boeing, Airbus and Sikorsky to invest in Aegean Free Zone
MINISTRY FULLY SUPPORTS DEFENSE INDUSTRY INVESTMENTS IN IZMIR

* Aegean Free Zone More Advantageous

A delegation of 8 people deliver positive opinion on the project for a new base to be set up by the world’s aerospace giants.

Ministry of Defense gives full support to “Aerospace Cluster Project” which will enable the world’s aerospace giants as Boeing, Airbus and Sikorsky to invest in Aegean Free Zone. A delegation of 8 people from the Undersecreteriat for Defense Industries came to Izmir for research. Visiting 4 companies in the Aegean Free Zone, including BMC, the delegation gave Izmir the top grade. Undersecretary for Defense Industries, Murad Bayar told that Izmir is more advantageous with its workforce and logistic potential.

* They Like It
Stating that Eskisehir and Ankara are candidates for the aerospace cluster in Turkiye, Bayar noted that Izmir also has a chance for this project. ESBAS Marketing and Promotion Manager Ertugrul Isiksoy expressed their wish for the increase of high value added manufacturing of high-tech products and stated that Boeing International Business Development Systems Turkiye Representative Joel Grey visited the Zone and expressed their desire to purchase more parts from Turkiye. Emphasizing that the Defense Industries delegation liked the Aegean Free Zone, Isiksoy told that they received full marks from the Ministry of Defense.

* November 13-14
While the Ministry of Defense also embraces ”1. Izmir Global Aerospace Conference”, which will be held in the Aegean Free Zone on November 13-14 and which will be the initiative step for “Aerospace Cluster Project” with cooperation of Aegean Foundation for Economic Development (EGEV) and ESBAS, Minister of Defense Vecdi Gonul as well as other bureaucrats for defense industries will be attending this conference.

* Aims To Become A Center
Representatives from the world’s giant aerospace companies such as Boeing, Sikorsky, Airbus, Lockheed Martin, GE, and astronauts as well as US Undersecretary for Defense Eric Edelman are expected to participate in this conference. With this conference, which will be held annually on a regular basis, the Aegean Free Zone aims to become the center for aerospace companies.

* Bayar Appreciates
Bayar, who told that he made an examination in Izmir, which is feasible for investments of Defense Industries, with the delegation, noted that aerospace companies could altogether manufacture in the Aegean Free Zone. “For this reason, we have come to Izmir to get a closer look. We visited BMC, Pagetel and other companies of this field in the Aegean Free Zone together with my expert team of 8 people. We are impressed by their operations. BMC already takes part in many projects for defense industries. Other companies make significant productions for defense industries and the aerospace sector. Izmir is highly eligible for the aerospace cluster with its qualified workforce and logistic potentials. We will re-evaluate this issue in Ankara,” said Bayar, who pointed out that there are a few more provinces in Turkiye where these companies can invest including Ankara and Eskisehir.

It would be really great, if Aerospace companies come to Izmir. I worked before in an Aerospace company. It is a great feeling to be part of the Aerospace sector.
