Last Sunday I discovered the Harlem Jazz Session at the "American Legion" Club on 246, 132 street in Harlem.
The great organ player Seleno Clarke assembles the finest musicians every Sunday in this place in the basement of browstone in a typical Harlem neighbourhood. The "American Legion" is a Veteran's club and the nicest assembly of people you may find on this planet.
The place is mighty groovy, when the organ growls you could believe to be in the late 60s at a very good place, my idea of heaven :-)
In contrary to other Jazz clubs in NYC there is NO cover charge and the drinks are moderately priced. You can also grab some homecooked soulfood or relax in the backyard garden.
Mr. Seleno Clarke a master at the Hammond B3 himself knows every single musician in Harlem, so it might happen that the likes of George Benson drop in to go for a set with the fantastic regular band.
This place is funky and has got alot of Soul!
