How did we start?
In an effort to become more involved in civic issues, a young leader named Henry Giessenbier founded the Young Men’s Progressive Civic Association (YMPCA) in St. Louis, Missouri, USA, in 1915. In 1918, YMPCA became affiliated with the St. Louis Chamber of Commerce. In the 1920s, international networks sprouted in Canada and England and, by 1940, they extended to Latin America. In 1944, JCI was established in Mexico City, Mexico, with Raul Garcia Vidal as its first president.
