Management of the Start of Product Development
Over my years of consulting in taking and assisting companies and entrepreneurs through Product Development all too often I have found that these clients were not prepared to start this process as they did not understand the process or obligations they would incur. They had not really looked at what they would be, as a company, with its product in the market. In fact many had not adequately considered the steps in product development to get products to market. Product development is often defined as the design and engineering of a product, however product development encompasses other critical functions that often are costly and time consuming in this overall process of getting ideas into products and out into the marketplace. In undertaking development a company needs to truly understand the implications of how and who it chooses to develop its product. Including deciding if it should do development in house or outsource all or part of the development. Outsourcing decisions cannot be made by knowing only the types of product development firms, or the names of some firms, or in knowing some consultants.

Richard (Dick) Haney is his most recent article writes about the process of making this decision.
Titled ”Evaluating In-house vs. Outsourcing for Product Design and Development” can be read on the ideas page at http://www.techmankanata.com/ideas.htm Dick is a frequent contributor to the ideas page and has written several articles on the aspects of product development.

    Thank You,
