Hello,

How do we learn as individuals in larger groups
so that gained knowledge is not flowing into the
sink?
Sounds silly;-)
Do you remember when you changed jobs in your organization,
and your boss told you, "Forget about the stuff you have done till yesterday.
Now you have to do as we do." (perhaps just even the department next door)?
Moving to another company, which of your "old" and "present" knowledge will
last longer (meaning lean if to be used in the new position as well) and what
are the drivers for that?
How general has the knowledge to be that it can be reused and made into value
over and over again?
What has been your experience with your own knowledge and its use?
Cheers,
Ralf

Hello Mari,
hello All,
Thank you for bringing the point into the open.
When learning in groups it is about the individual learning and -much more- about the collective learning and knowledge increase (in quality and quantity).
Of course the knowledge can't be forced to come up, the structure, system and right surrounding have to create the creative and innovative space where the learning can come up.
Personally I have experienced this in several diverse environments:
1. Working in a callcenter during the flooding in Dresden 2002 in a hastely setup network (HSN)
2. Being part of the initial building party of the new BMW Leipzig Plant (where especially the scarceness of time and distance was the driver for learning and the bosses let most of the folks do what they had to do), 2003-2005
3. During an Ultimate Frisbee tournament in Amsterdam, where a team of people who didn't know in advance grew together to one single piece collective playing knowledge (it felt awesome when being in the flow with the others in a team, nobody has really to think, as you sense in advance what is going to happen)
What has been your most remembered experience where collective intelligence emerged?
Cheers,
Ralf

Hi Mari,
keeping the knowledge in a sustainable way amongst the members of the group, even after some of the key figures have left the network probably is one of the most challenging tasks in organizations (of any kind).
What structure does it need in order to provide that kind of florishing?
What are the deep assumptions of today's people that are keeping the pace low?
I am always inspired by other perspectives being expressed in written words, as here in the group (as much as spoken word;-)). It opens up your own thinking the very moment you read and think by yourself, "Hm, that is an interesting new perspective. Where has the thinking come from to emerge in such statements?"
Cheers,
Ralf
