Hallo to everybody ... here's a new entry!!
Hallo to everybody. I've just signed in because I'm particularly interested in Linux, as I've definitely decided to leave Win os. I have always heard positive comments about Linux in terms of stability and usability, even if I tried hard to convert to it with no success. Unfortunately it is necessary to have a good knowledge of how your machine works and a lot of other details that the "good Bill" never dared to ask us... not for his heart kindness but (i do know now) because it's simpler to "fidelize" pretty ignorant customers.... I mean, a win user may even ignore everything about his pc except the price he paid .... installation packages do everything for you.... with last releases you don't even need drivers of your components.... IT has them all inside!!!
On the contrary, with Linux you need to know a lot... that's why I have just installed Ubuntu with WUBI (the win-like installation wizard for win addicted) and can't set the internet connection.... as well as my printer in the office net.
I hope to find good Samaritans here to help me and explain in plain and clear way what exactly to do (except to go back to win...). If i found someone speaking Italian that would be great, as you can easily get the reason why by yourself after reading these few words....
Before leaving, a little question to moderators.... as the group is mainly in German, English and Spanish, being Italian used only in two semi deserted forum about events (no articles) and job offering/seeking (1 article in July) how did it come the idea to call the group "Italian Linux Society" and let Italian appear as to be the main language of the group? It's a bit misleading....
Anyway, in this case that's not a problem.... my understanding rate won't be negatively affected that much while talking about something completely obscure to me ...
Read you soon in these group.
    Bye

Hi, I just joined today too.

What kind of internet do you have? ADSL, Cable, Modem, ... In case it's ADSL, is your network card working? You can check it with ifconfig. Just type ifconfig in a text console.

    Greetings
    David
