    OS und kostenfreie Möglichkeiten für Powerpoint Präsentationen in der Onlinelehre

    In der Lehre sind Powerpoint Folien vielseitig einsetzbar. Die einfache Benutzeroberfläche von MS Powerpoint oder dem kostenfreien Open Office Modul Impress sind dabei von Vorteil für Lehrkräfte, die keine großen Computerkenntnisse besitzen. Neben der anschaulichen Verwendung im Präsenzunterricht können die Folien in konvertierter Form auch online eingesetzt werden. Hier eine kurze Zusammenfassung der Möglichkeiten:

    Open Office to Flash
    Powerpoint-Folien können mit wenigen Handgriffen als Flash-Format (swf) abgespeichert werden. Benötigt wird dazu das Open Office Paket (http://de.openoffice.org/). Mit dem Modul Impress haben Sie die Möglichkeit, auch MS Office Präsentationen zu öffnen und zu konvertieren. Animationen und Multimediaformate gehen dabei zwar verloren, aber die schnelle und einfache Konvertierung ist ein gutes Argument zur Nutzung.

    Open Office to HTML
    Fast ebenso einfach wie die Konvertierung in Flash ist die Umwandlung in HTML. Dabei kann eine Navigation eingebunden werden, sowie eine Inhaltsangabe mit den Titeln der einzelnen Folien. Die Folien werden dabei in Grafiken umgewandelt. Als Variante kann man die Generierung von HTML in Frames oder ohne Frames wählen.

    Onlinedienst Slideshare
    Der Dienst hat Ähnlichkeiten zu Youtube. Jedoch können Sie bei Slideshare Präsentationen hochladen (http://www.slideshare.net/). Als Ergebnis erhalten Sie eine Flashpräsentation, die Sie über eine bestimmte Adresse aufrufen können. Ferner bekommen Sie einen HTML-Code mit dem Sie die Präsentation beliebig in Webseiten oder Lernumgebungen einbinden können. Im Gegensatz zum Open Office Flash bietet Slideshare einen Player, der das Navigieren der Folien erlaubt.

    Onlinedienst Authorstream
    Dieser Dienst ist vergleichbar mit Slideshare. Jedoch gibt es die Möglichkeit, die Präsentationen im Fullscreen Modus zu betrachten, was bei größeren Abbildungen von Vorteil ist. Ferner können die Folien vertont werden. (http://www.authorstream.com/)

    authorPOINT Lite für PowerPoint
    authorPOINT ist ein Programm mit dem sich aus PowerPoint Folien ebenfalls attraktive Präsentationen im Flashformat erstellen lassen. Die Lite Version ist kostenlos und hat eine Schnittstelle zum Authorstream Webservice. (http://www.authorgen.com/authorpoint/index.htm)

    Dies ist sicherlich nur ein Ausschnitt der Möglichkeiten, die sich bei der Verwendung von Powerpoint oder OO Impress in der Lehre bieten. Kennen Sie weitere Möglichkeiten, die kostenfrei sind? Dann würden wir uns über eine Nachricht freuen.

    Spielerisch lernen - Neues (Game) Aktivitäten Modul in Moodle

    Dieses Modul wurde von Vasilis Daloukas für Moodle als Aktivität entwickelt und hat schnell großes Interesse hervorgerufen. Im Modul sind sieben Spielarten verfügbar (Hangman, Kreuzworträtsel, Cryptex, Wer wird Millionär, Sudoku, "Snakes and Ladders" und "Buch mit Fragen). Als Basis für die Spiele wird entweder ein Glossar verwendet oder eine Fragenkategorie bzw. ein vorhandener Test. Die Beliebtheit erklärt sich aufgrund des weit verbreiteten Bedürfnisses, das Lernen interessant und anregend zu gestalten. Die Spiele helfen dabei, genau diesen Ansprüchen gerecht zu werden.
    Alle Spielformen sind in die Bewertungsroutinen von Moodle eingebunden. So können der Teilnehmer und die Kursverwaltung Statistiken zum Abschneiden aufrufen.

    Das Modul wurde bereits in verschiedenen Versionen als Update zur Verfügung gestellt, was zeigt, dass sowohl das Interesse groß ist, als auch der Wille des Entwicklers, das Modul zu verbessern. Einige kleinere Fehler, die es bei neuen Modulen natürlicherweise gibt wurden bereits beseitigt. Mehr Informationen zum Modul finden Sie auf der Moodle Plattform von Vasilis Daloukas:

    Pachyderm – Flash Lernmodule online erstellen.

    Autorenwerkzeuge zur Erstellung von Lerneinheiten werden meist lokal auf einem PC oder Mac installiert. Interessant sind aber auch Lösungen, die als Serverlösung funktionieren. Pachyderm ist eine solche Lösung. Pachyderm wird auf einem Windowsserver installiert. Anschließend werden Accounts für Autoren angelegt, die Autoren haben dann die Möglichkeit über einen Browser online Flash Lernmodule zu erstellen. Die Produktion erfolgt anhand von Templates, die Eingabe von Texten und Grafiken über Formulare. Zusätzlich bietet die Software eine Medienverwaltung, um bestimmte Medien projektübergreifend nutzen zu können. Die Medien können auch der Allgemeinheit zur Verfügung gestellt werden.

    Neben Texten und Grafiken können auch Filme und Flashformate eingebunden werden. So bekommt man insgesamt attraktive, animierte Lerneinheit mit Multimedia-Elementen. Für Institutionen bietet Pachyderm damit eine komplette Autorenumgebung, die frei ist von Lizenzkosten (abgesehen von der benötigten Windowslizenz.).

    Um die mit der Software gelieferten Templates an die eigene CI anzugleichen bedarf es einiger Kenntnisse in Flash und XML. Ebenso verhält es sich mit der Gestaltung neuer, individueller Templates. Daher ist Pachyderm nicht als ad hoc Lösung zu betrachten, sondern eher als institutionsweite Lösung.     Open source and free presentation software for education

    Powerpoint slides are commonly used in education, this is largely due to their ease of use and versatility. The intuitive user interface of Microsoft PowerPoint and its Open Office equivalent are easy to use for instructors who possess only limited computer knowledge. Apart from the implementation in face-to-face training, the slides can also be converted to online formats. Here a short summary of possibilities:

    Open Office to Flash
    Microsoft PowerPoint slides can be converted to Flash format (swf) in only a few clicks. The Open Office equivalent to Powerpoint called Impress (http://de.openoffice.org/) is able to open and save Powerpoint slides to Flash format. The downside, any animations and multimedia elements contained in the Powerpoint presentation will be lost during the conversion process. The fast and simple conversion process however is still a strong argument for adoption.

    Open Office to HTML
    Nearly as simple as the conversion to Flash, is the transformation to HTML format. A navigation can also be included, as well as content declaration of slide titles. The slides are thereby converted into images. As an option, one can select the generation of HTML with or without frames.

    On-line service Slideshare
    The service is very similar to Youtube. The user creates an account at Slideshare (http://www.slideshare.net/), through which he can upload presentations to the Slideshare service. Slideshare converts any uploaded presentations to Flash format, and makes the newly created presentation available to the user within their account. The user can then choose how he would like to publish their work. The author can choose to keep their work private, in this case only they will have access to the online document or he can publish his work and make it accessible to specific user groups or the entire public. After publishing the author receives a specific address that he can use to invite groups etc. to view his work. The service also provides the user with HTML code that helps him to implement the presentations in personal web pages or learning environments. In contrast to the Open Office solution, this method includes a player, to navigate through the slides.

    Online service Authorstream
    This service is comparable with Slideshare. However in Slideshare it is possible to view the presentation in full screen mode which is favorable when viewing larger illustrations. Furthermore music tracks can also be added to the slides. (http://www.authorstream.com/)

    AuthorPOINT Lite for PowerPoint
    AuthorPOINT is a program with allows you to convert your PowerPoint files to flash presentations. The lite version is free of charge and has an interface to the Authorstream Web service (http://www.authorgen.com/authorpoint/index.htm)

    This article only highlights a few of the possibilities, which are available when using PowerPoint of Open Office Impress products in education.     Learning with games – New game activity module released for Moodle.

    A new game module has been developed by Vasilis Daloukas as an activity module for Moodle which has stirred up a lot of interest since its release. The module includes seven different games (Hangman, cross word mystery, Cryptex, Who wants to be a millionaire, Sudoku, Snakes and Ladders and Question book). The games are driven using either the glossary or question categories and/or existing test in Moodle. Its popularity has largely been driven by the demand for creating learning material that motivates and stimulates the learning process. All games have been fully integrated with moodle and are automatically evaluated by the platform. This means that participant as well as teachers and administrators can take full advantage of the statistics collected by the platform to review individual and group performance after the games.

    The module has already been made available in various versions of Moodle as an update, which shows that general interest within the moodle community is rising. Many of the smaller errors, which are common among newly developed modules have already been solved.

    Pachyderm – Create Flash learning modules online.

    Authoring tools for the production of learning material are usually installed locally on a computer. Server-based authoring solutions are also an interesting option. Pachyderm is such a solution and can be installed on Microsoft Windows Server. Authors/Teachers who have a valid account on the server are able to create Flash-based content over their browser on the server. Production of content is based on templates, input of texts and images are provided by the author using the formulas on the server. Additionally Pachyderm includes a media repository which enables the sharing of media resources between projects. If required the media can also be made available to the public.

    Beside texts and images, it is also possible to incorporate video and Flash-formats within the learning modules. Pachyderm produces attractive, animated learning content including many multimedia elements. This offers institutions a complete license free authoring environment with no additional costs (apart from the necessary Microsoft Windows Server license.).

    In order to adapt the default templates to your own corporate identity requires special knowledge in flash and XML. The same applies when creating new individual templates. Pachyderm should not be regarded as an ad hoc solution, but rather as an institution-wide implementation.
