Dear group members,
Here are some relevant IP-News with regard to China:
On April 10th, 2007 the US government filed two formal complaints with the World Trade Organisation (WTO) against China over piracy offences and counterfeit product trading in the region.
See,

In this connection China's new “Action Plan on IPR Protection 2007" has to been seen (an informal response to the complaint?).
According to the plan, China will better protect property rights (IPR) protection in a variety of ways, by improving legislation and law-enforcement and creating institutions to oversee and enforce this. For example the authorities will draft, formulate and revise 14 laws, regulations, rules and administrative measures on trademarks, copyrights, patents and Customs protection, as well as 7 judicial interpretations and guidelines (all together 276 measures in 10 areas).

Furthermore it is to be noted that with effect from June 6th, 2007 China has acceded to the WIPO Copyright Treaty – WCT and to the WIPO Performance and Phonograms Treaty –WPPT. However these treaties unfortunately do not apply to the special administrative regions Hong Kong and Macau.
Best regards
