The Worlds second bigest Container Port in Tekirdag 140 km western from Istanbul will be finished in 2012.
• ASYAPORT is constructed as an international transit port (Main Port - Hub Port), according to its installation planning. The worksite infrastructure of the construction located at the Central district of the Province Tekirdağ, Barbaros Municipality and the filling activities were initiated on April 2009.
• Incentive Certificate for the investment was granted on December/2009.
• All technical approvals, legal approvals and permits have been obtained and Lease Agreement with Government has duly been signed.
• As a pioneer achievement in Turkey at this scale, a 1000 meter long cylindrical section floating breakwater will be constructed at Asyaport. Physical and computer modelling of this structure and performance studies have been completed at the hydraulics laboratories of İstanbul Technical University with great success.
• Asyaport design handling capacity is 2,5 million TEU per year. The terminal will start operation with an initial handling capacity of 1.000.000 TEU per year.
• Agreement is established with MSC (Mediterranean Shipping Company) for the handling of 500.000 TEU per year.
• At this "deep sea container terminal", total quay length will be 2010 meters at drafts up to 20 meters.
• Asyaport container terminal, with its superb location and gigantic ship to shore cranes, is organized to accommodate not only the very large container carrier ships but to accommodate VERY VERY LARGE CONTAINER CARRIER SHIPS (Super Post Panamax, i.e. 13000 TEU capacity) which recently appeared at global seas.
• In addition to ready motorway connections to industrial zones at Thrace and Istanbul from Asyaport and expected connections to Central and East Europe through Tekirdağ-Muratlı railroad link, fast and economical maritime service to Körfez, South Marmara coastline and all Blacksea ports will be possible by feeder vessels.
• X-Ray controlled customs clearance, which all modern and large container terminals of the world started to introduce, will also take place in Asyaport when full capacity operation takes start at the terminal.
• Some round figures about Asyaport construction are;
• 170.000 m3 of sulphate resistant concrete will be used for the construction. With this amount of concrete it is possible to build 5000 apartments of 100 m2 size.
• In compliance with the new structural regulations for earthquake zones and structurally designed to service the loads of giant gantry cranes, 31.000 metric tons of steel piles of 33.000 meters length will be battered. (Roughly the distance between Tekirdağ and Marmara Ereğlisi)
• 10.000 tons of steel reinforcement bars and 1000 tons of various steel sections will also be used for the construction.
• The gigantic cranes to handle two containers at a time, weighing 1500 metric tons will operate with electric power at Asyaport.
• In order to supply the immense amount of energy needed by these cranes, new high voltage transmission lines will be constructed to the port. (For comparison reasons, the power transformer of Asyaport will have higher capacity than the total of all brick factories operating in the area.)
• Starting from second half of the construction schedule, qualified personnel will be employed to operate these special cranes and other equipment, and these personnel will be trained in and abroad.
• Türkiye'yi demiryolu ile Avrupa'ya bağlayan hattın temeli 14 Nisan 2007 tarihinde atılmış ve inşaat tamamlanma seviyesine gelmiştir.
• Barbaros Municipality planned an area of 5 million square meters at the back site of ASYAPORT as industry and warehouse area, and efforts are displayed for it to be included to the environmental plan scaled 1/25.000.
• The 30 meters wide Port road was projected by General Directorate of Highways in order to be connected to the State Highway and plans are approved by the Town Council.
